Annie Saunders is an American theatrical and film director. She holds an MA in English literature from the University of London, and trained at the Sanford Meisner Center for the Arts, the American Conservatory Theater and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She worked for ten years as a creative activist with Eve Ensler's V-Day, a global creative movement to end violence against women. She has worked as a director in London and Los Angeles, Her company, Wilderness, focuses on site-responsive, immersive theatre performances. “The Day Shall Declare It”, a show she wrote and directed, was named one of the best theatrical shows in Los Angeles in 2016 and 2017 and her latest work, “Our Country” premiered at the 2018 Edinborough Arts and Culture Festival. She has also directed commercials and immersive experiences for brands including Bulleit, Asics, and HP.

A native San Franciscan, Saunders came to Los Angeles six years ago after moving from London, where she was exposed to the experimentally created worlds of London’s Punchdrunk and Shunt theater companies, and where she worked with the immersive group Theater Delicatessen. She has described The Day Shall Declare It as emerging from her desire to create an experimental movement piece that explores the current economic upheaval in America.
